In November 2025, the American Academy of Natural and Social Sciences convened an internal seminar on “Biodiversity Conservation and Ecosystem Resilience” in the United States. The event was organized by the Academy’s Center for Ecological and Environmental Studies and gathered researchers from across its internal research divisions. The seminar was chaired by Deputy Secretary-General Dr. Michael Anderson. Opening remarks were delivered by Prof. Olivia Green, Director of the Center for Ecological and Environmental Studies, who emphasized that biodiversity loss continues to pose significant risks to global ecological security and sustainable development. She called for strengthened interdisciplinary research and more effective policy frameworks to address these challenges. During the keynote session, several Academy researchers presented their latest work. Senior Ecological Analyst Dr. Benjamin Clark examined “Ecosystem Resilience under Climate Stress,” highlighting adaptive management strategies. Dr. Rachel Kim, Head of the Environmental Policy Program, discussed “Global Biodiversity Governance and Policy Coordination,” focusing on international regulatory mechanisms. Conservation Data Specialist Dr. David Wilson presented on “Technological Approaches to Biodiversity Monitoring,” including the application of remote sensing and data analytics. The roundtable discussion was moderated by Director of Academic Affairs Dr. Jonathan Reed. Participants engaged in in-depth exchanges on key topics such as: (1) long-term biodiversity conservation strategies; (2) integration of ecological protection into economic planning; (3) cross-border collaboration in species protection; and (4) the role of digital technologies in environmental monitoring and assessment. Attendees also reviewed progress from ongoing internal research initiatives and identified priorities for future studies. In the closing session, Director of the Policy Research Office Dr. Laura Bennett summarized the key findings and proposed a roadmap for future work. The Academy plans to develop a comprehensive policy report and enhance collaboration with international partners in the field of biodiversity conservation. This seminar further reinforced the Academy’s commitment to advancing interdisciplinary research and contributing to global efforts in biodiversity protection and sustainable ecosystem management.
